The Birth of Usui Reiki Ryoho to Gendai Reiki Ho

The earliest translation known for the word "reiki" is; ". . .the atmosphere of the Divine." Today however, the word "Reiki" in the Japanese dictionary is defined as "reimyo energy." In Japanese, reimyo means a mysterious, sacred force, while Ki means energy. From this definition we can say Reiki is a sacred energy with mysterious functions.

Reiki-ho is referred to as a methodology to attain a healthy and happy life following the teachings of Usui Sensei, the founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho. The official name of the method is Shinshin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho and the name of the association founded by Usui Sensi is Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai.

We all want a healthy, happy life. The knowledge of how we can live a healthy, happy life is to be in resonance with the Universe (this is the energy of Reiki). In the West we are mostly familiar with Reiki as a form of healing with the hands. From the perspective of Japanese Reiki this is simply a starting point. As Usui Reiki Ryoho (the original system formulated by Usui Sensei) emerged, it did not come about through a search for a healing method. It is a gift given along with spiritual awakening as when Usui Sensei attained the maximum state of Anshin Ritsumei (the meaning of life or enlightenment) after undertaking spiritual exercises to find it.

The purpose of Usui Reiki Ryoho from the perspective of Usui Sensi

"People were originally created healthy and happy. In order to recover our original healthy condition, we must make our inner Reiki resonate with the Reiki of the universe. The power to heal with our hands is made possible through this resonance. The state of Anshin Ritsumei is simply the resonance of both Reikis. I transmit the path to Anshin Ritsumei (the meaning of life) through hand healing as a gateway accessible to everybody."

Before the time of his death on March 9, 1926, Usui Sensi had completed his system of Reiki. He was 60 years old and had premonitions of his death for some time. Before leaving on his travels he appointed Juzaburo Ushida as the second president of the Gakkai. At the time of his death the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai had 2000 members and Usui Sensei had granted Shinpiden, the highest level, to 21 of them. At the same time as he personally gave his Shinpiden students instruction in Anshin Ritsumei, they also helped him to complete the system by means of which any Reiki practitioner can advance along the path to health and happiness.

Original Teachings From Mikao Usui Now At Divine Love Institute™

It has long been our mission to bring our Reiki Teachings back to the purity and intention originally formulated by Usui Sensi. After 15 years as a Western Reiki Master Teacher Nancy Haney Duke and Nancy Livingston, 10 years as a Western Reiki Master Teacher, were among those representing the U. S. at the 2015 IV Gendai Reiki Ho International Gathering in Spain, at which time they were initiated as Gendai Reiki Shihan (Teachers) by Usui Reiki Ryoho member Hiroshi Doi. Doi Sensei is also the Founder of Gendai Reiki Ho (Dento Reiki).

Both Nancy’s have studied the original Japanese Reiki teachings with Hiroshi Doi Sensi who is a member of the Gakkai (the organization originally started by Mikao Usui) and Founder of Gendai Reiki Ho (Dento Reiki). Doi Sensei empowered them to carry the Gendai Reiki Lineage, the energetic transmission from teacher to teacher originating with Mikao Usui.
