Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder of the lower GI tract. It is the most common chronic health disorder in the country and affects as many as one in five people (both adults and children) in the United States.

As with any illness, everyone experiences this disorder a little differently. For some, the syndrome is merely an occasional, minor irritation. For many IBS patients, however, the pain and stomach cramps, diarrhea and/or constipation, and gas and bloating can be so pronounced they may be almost crippling! People who are affected like this often can't travel, can't go out socially, and sometimes can't even work because of their condition.

Years ago, I learned that certain foods could trigger my IBS symptoms, so studying nutrition and finding my own correct diet for IBS allowed me to get some relief. Encouraged by my success, I continued to study, and after being trained in over one hundred dietary theories, I received a Certificate in Nutrition from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (www.integrativenutrition.com). I learned numerous practical lifestyle coaching methods to complete my Health Coach training, as well.

While I was searching for additional natural treatments for IBS, I also took a look at how my relationships, work, stress levels, and emotions could affect my condition. These realizations led to learning about and applying a wide variety of holistic and spiritual therapies to my life and I rounded out my studies by becoming a Holistic Practitioner and a Spiritual Counselor.
